The importance of forest as a resource is as follows:
1) It helps in maintaining the Carbon dioxide-Oxygen levels in the atmosphere and sustains the lives of plants and animals.
2) It prevents soil erosion as the roots of trees hold the soil together firmly and doesnot leave it loose.
3) It helps in the percolation of water into the soil when there is water flowing through the forest (other factors like rain also).
4) It provides food, shelter, clothing (to humans). It balances the ecosystem present in the forest.
