In the figure ABCD is the garden whose length and breadth are
90 m and 75 m respectively
A path 5 m wide is to be built outside and around it
Area of the path = area of rectangle PQRS –
area of rectangle UVWX
= PS × PQ – UV × UX
= (90 m + 5 m + 5 m) × (75 m + 5 m + 5 m)
– (90 m – 5 m
– 5 m) × (75 m
– 5 m – 5 m)
= 100 m × 85 m – 80 m
× 65 m
= (8500 – 5200) m2
= 3300 m2
