A wire of resistance 10 ohm is bent in the form of a closed circle . What is the effective resistance between the points at the ends of any diameter of a circle ?

The wire is bent to form a closed circle So, the two parts are connected in parellel (because diff. amount of current will flow through them)

So,equivalent resistance

1/R = 1/5 + 1/5

1/R = 2/5

R = 5/2 = 2.5 ohms

Thanks

Which 2 parts r u talking about ?

  • 5

we have to assume thar it is connectd in parallel as different  amount of current will flow!!!!!

tHEREFORE,,,,

equivalent resistance

1/R = 1/5 + 1/5

1/R = 2/5

R = 5/2 = 2.5 ohms

it is not parts but points which nitin is talking about

since it is the two end pionts of a diameter they will be in parallel connection

 if we take 25 ohm instead of 10ohm..then?

Why will the resistance of 2nd part (the part between the 2 ends of diameter) be 5 ohm?

  • -2

it is 2.5 ohms as

the resistance of straight wire = 10 ohm

when it is bent in the form of a closed circle, the wires will be connected in parallel. Also, the length will be half, so resistance will also become half,

so resisteance of each part connected in parallel will be 5 ohms.

Now, resistance in parallel combination, 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2

1/R=1/5 + 1/5

1/R=2/5

R=5/2=2.5

A wire is bent into a circle. The effective resistance across the diameter is 8 ohm . Find the resistance of the wire.

Acc to me 2.5 is answer.Anirudh is absolutely right.
