advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel combination
Parallel connection:
1. Voltage is same across all the components connected in parallel.
2. Parallel connection of resistances helps us obtain a resistance lower than the resistances used.
3. In house hold circuitry, parallel connection is used because in such connection every appliance has its own switch to ON or OFF it, which doesn’t affect the other appliances connected to the line. A fault in one appliance will not affect the working of the other appliances.
Series connection:
1. In series connection the current through all the components is same.
2. Series connection of resistances helps us obtain a resistance which has a higher value than the resistances used.
3. Series connection of many components lowers the current and the voltage drop across each component. This phenomenon is used to light a large number of low voltage bulbs connected in series to a voltage source. The drawback is that if one bulb goes off the entire series of bulbs will stop glowing.
Both the type of connections are equally important in various circuits. When one type of connection doesn’t work, the other type is used. So, we actually cannot point out the disadvantages of the connections.
