Although Nicola and Jacopo are young boys, the author refers to them as gentlemen. Why does he do so ?

He refers to them as gentlemen because they are the real heroes in the story.They took care of their sister who had been suffering from tuberculosis.They were so much dedicated to hardwork.They did odd jobs,solely because they had to pay the fee for their sister's treatment.
