Let total number of soldiers in beginning = x

So,

From given condition , we get

x - 12 5% of x - 15% of x = 1082280

⇒x -12
5x100 - 15x100 = 1082280⇒x -x8 - 3x20 = 1082280⇒ 40x - 5x - 6x40 = 1082280⇒ 29x40 = 1082280⇒ x40 =37320⇒ x =1492800
