As you read the second stanza, what pictures do you see in your mind?

Hello,

The second stanza of the poem goes like this:

Alone she cuts, and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain:
O listen! For the vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.

These lines draw a very melancholic picture of the lonely reaper in the meadows. The poet hears a very sad and plaintive song sung by the young woman who is reaping the grain. However, the song seems to pacify the poet in some strange way, making it an emotional experience for him. His words comforted and gave immense joy to the poet.

Hope the above explanation helps you with your query.
Best wishes!

THE HIGH LAND LASS WAS CUTTING AND BINDING THE GRAIN . WHILE SHE WAS DOING THE WORK, SHE WAS SINGING A MELONCHOLY STRAIN . THE VALLEY WAS OVERFLOW WITH HER SONG .
