can a mixture of naphthalene and salt be separated by sublimation method.why or why not
Dear student
Yes a mixture of Naphthalene and salt can be separated by sublimation .This is because naphthalene is a sublime, i.e it converts into the vapour state without changing into the liquid state and its vapour change into solid without changing into liquid, while sodium chloride is not a sublime.
So, when both sodium chloride and naphthalene are kept in a china dish with an inverted funnel on top, the vapours of naphthalene get deposited on the sides of the funnel , which solidify upon cooling, while the sodium chloride remains in the china dish.
