Can a Sund wave (or any longitudanalwave) travel through solids..?? Or do longitudanl waves travel as transverse waves in solids..???

Dear Student,

Yes, Sound wave can travel through solids. Sound is produced when object or molecules or particles of the medium vibrates. Therefore it can be defined as any disturbance that propagates through an elastic medium like air, ground, or water. Sound propagates through these compressible media as longitudinal waves and also as a transverse waves in solids media.
Through solids sound can be transmitted as both longitudinal and transverse waves i.e., vibration of particles are either along the direction of propagation or  perpendicular to the direction of propagation of wave.
