can any1 summarise me the functions of male reproductive organs

Dear Student,

The male reproductive system consist of

* A pair of testes

 * Accessory glands and ducts

* External genitalia

Testes

Testes produce male germ cells called sperms. Sperm is a male gamete that fuses with female gamete to form zygote.

Testis also secrete testosterone, responsible for males’ sexual as well as secondary sexual characteristics.

Acessory glands include

 * A pair of seminal vesicles

 * Prostate gland

 * A pair of bulbourethral glands

The secretions of these glands make up the seminal plasma and provide nutrition and a medium of motility to the sperms.

Cowper’s gland also known as bulbourethral gland ia a tiny gland present in the male reproductive system. It is located on the sides of the urethra just below the prostate gland. It releases a fluid.This fluid lubricate the urethra and neutralize any acidity that may be present due to residual drops of urine in the urethra.

Both prostrate and seminal vesicle secrete alkaline fluid that helps in neutralizing the acidity of vaginal tract and increasing the life-span of sperms. Both are the source of nutritional secretions for sperms to form semen during ejaculation. Prostatic fluid provide greater motility,longer survival period and protection to sperms than seminal vesicle fluid. Most of of the alkalinization of semen is contributed by seminal vesicle fluid.

Male external genitalia consist of penis, of which main function is urination and delivery of sperm during copulation.
