Character sketch of Jeanne:

Jeanne is an idealistic person. She wants to buy a villa so that her parents can come and stay with her and she thinks Gaston will fall in with her wishes. She is naive enough to believe Gaston has changed his mind when he says he wants to buy the villa.

Character sketch of Mrs. Al Smith:

Mrs Al Smith was an american woman who was trying her hand at movies and therefore wanted to have a piece of land to build a bungalow near to Joinville studios. she was also a very busy woman. we know this by her repeated statements about her not having much time. She also thought French people were silly as they had to consult many people before taking any decision or taking care of their grandparents as these things were not followed by Americans.

Character sketch of the maid:

The character of maid is quite conventionally portrayed in this play. Here, she tries to convince her ‘Madame’ against selling the villa and that too at such an adverse time when business was not running in their favour. She thought that it was a good place for them to spend their weekends. She was contemplative about whether it was the right time to sell the villa. She was also a person in need of money and thus, did not want to lose an opportunity to work in a film. The money was good. She also offers Juliette a role in a film, although it isn’t clear whether she was innocent in offering a job or was deliberate in demeaning her mistress.

Character sketch of Gaston:

gaston was an oppurtunist. he understood the situation very well and took the full advantage of the situation for his own profit. as in the story he sold the villa for 300 thousand francs to mrs. al smith and then paid juliette a 200 thousand francs. this shows that gaston was vey good dealing with situations and making full use of any oppurtunity given to him. he was a better business man in comaprison to juliette.

Character sketch of juliette:

juliette is a fairly nice lady.she was a good dealer. she knew how to do business.first thing is that she didn't let her tongue slip and told a lot good about jeanne and gaston. the villa was a big headache for her and she wanted to sell it at any rate, even if it is the cheapest rate.
