n-butane in presence of uv light reacts with Cl2 to form 2-chlorobutane mainly. when this compound is treated with alcoholic KOH, it gives 2-butene.

n-butane + chlorine in the presence of sunlight gives 1-chloro butane. this on reacn with aq KOH gives 1-butanol. dehydrate this with H2SO4.this gives 1butene. then on hydrate with H20/H+, this gives 2butanol. then dehydrate it with H2SO4. this gives 2-butene since the last step follows saytzeff's rule... :)
