define cash reserve ratio

Cash Reserve Ratio (crr) as decided by the RBI, specifies the portion of the total deposits which the commercial banks are required to keep as reserves with the RBI. It is one of the key policy instruments used by the RBI to influence the reserve deposits of the commercial banks. Higher the crr, higher will be the banks' requirement for reserve deposits and vice-versa.
