DEFINE OPTICAL DENSITY.

Hi Devika!

Optical density (OD) of a medium is the measure of its transmittance for a radiation of particular wavelength. Higher is the value of OD, lower is transmittance. It is expressed as log10 (1/T), where T is the transmittance in percentage.

OD is related to refractive index of a material. A higher value of refractive index means higher OD. This means that light travels slower, in a medium with high optical density.

Cheers!!

Optical density is the measure of the transmission of an optical medium for a given wavelength.Higher OD lower transmittence and vice versa e.g; optical density of 1 means 90% of incident light is absorbed.

I hope you got the answer if you are sataisfied please thumbs up!!!!!

Optical density refers to the density which determines how speed the light would travel through a given medium.

For eg---> Air has a low optical density while diamond has a high optical density!!!

hello Devika, here giving you simple answer.

Optical density (OD) means, it is the capacity of an element to pass through a medium.
