The common method of estimating poverty line in India is level of income and consumption. As food is the least for our basic need, the poverty line is drawn upon the minimum calorie intake.The accepted average calorie requirement in India is 2400 calorie per person per day in rural area and 2100 calorie in urban area. And the minimum income is Rs. 328per person in rural ans Rs. 454 in urban area

in india , poverty line has been defined as a situation in which a person face to earn incime sufficient to buy his means of subsistence . while determining the poverty line , planning commission has fixed a minimum nutrition amount as 2400 calories per person per day for rural areas and 2100 calories per day for urban areas . those person whose consumption level fells below the minimum level is considered as poor .

poverty line is also determined on the basis of consumption expenditure . the level of consumption expenditure per person per month has been fixed at rs 385 and rs 454 for rural and urban areas separately .
