describe the boatman in the poem, ' lord ullin's daughter?

The boatman in the poem is a very courageous and upright man. At first he is not willing to go across the river in the storm, but when he hears that the lovers have eloped and the girl's father is chasing them he agrees to do it. The groom was a chieftain of a highland and was willing to pay a lot of money but the boatman refused the offer. He agreed to save them only because he respected the lady and was worried about her safety. As they started rowing, thee storm raged more fiercely, but the boatman was not afraid and went on rowing. In the end the boat overturned and all the three were drowned.
