- India has a long coastline of 7.516 km and has 12 major and 187 intermediate ports
- These ports handle 95% of foreign trade in India
- Kandla in Kuchch was the first ever developed port after the India’s Independence

- Kandla is a tidal port which handles convenient handling of exports and imports of granary and industrial belt across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana etc
