Bio degradable waste

Non bio degradable waste

1. The wastes decompose naturally in the environment.

The wastes do not decompose naturally.

2. They are safe for the environment.

They are harmful to the environment and create pollution.

3. The wastes are made up of natural ingredients.

The wastes are made up of synthetic materials.

4. They can be constantly reused.

They cannot be recycled.

5.Biodegradable substances persist for small time interval in the environment.Non biodegradable substances persist for longer time in the environment.6. Example waste papers, wood crumbles.Example plastic bags, cans, disposable bottles.

  • Biodegradableare the substances which can be broken down (degraded) into simple forms by the action of microbes. This is done by the action of enzymes secreted by microbes.Non Biodegradableare the substances which cannot be broken into simpler forms by microbes as microbes lack enzymes to degrade them.
  • Biodegradable substances persist for small time interval (weeks to months) in the environment. Where as non biodegradable substances persist for long (several years) in environment.
  • Biodegradable substances are less harmful to the environment. Non biodegradable are more harmful.
  • Biodegradable can be used for making manure by collecting them in a pit and allowing them to decay. So, they can be useful. Non biodegradable can not be used for making manure.
  • Examples of biodegradable includes paper, vegetable peels, dead plants and animals. Examples of non biodegradable includes plastics, chemicals like DDT

Biodegradable waste is a type of waste which comprises of waste streams that are available for biodegradation. These wastes typically originate from plants, animals and other living organisms. It can be commonly found in municipal solid waste (sometimes called biodegradable municipal waste [BMW]): * Green waste * Food waste * Paper waste * Biodegradable plastics Other biodegradable wastes include: * Human waste * Manure * Sewage * Slaughterhouse waste Biodegradable waste includes kitchen waste, garden waste, paper and the kind. Non-biodegradable waste includes glass, most types of plastics, wooden articles, rubber, batteries and the kind. Public have been asked to stop giving mixed garbage to the conservancy workers. Also, they have been advised not to give biodegradable garbage in plastic bags, as it will defeat the purpose.
