Differentiate between Diffusion and Osmosis

  • -4

the movement of water frm low concentration to high concentration through a semipermeable membrane iz known as osmosis.

for eg - dat generally happens in resins 4r further infor. u can refer to 10 th class practical book where an exp. iz given and diffusion iz vice-versa of osmosis..............

when water moves in or out through a semi permeable membrane(cell membrane) , the process is called osmosis and when air moves in or out throught the same semi-permeable membrane(cell membrane), the process is called diffusion.

  • 1

DIFFUSION- The movement of particles like oxygen or carbon dioxide through the selectively permeable membrane from its region of higher concentration to its region of lower concentration.

ex. Exchange of gases in plants

OSMOSIS - the movement of water molecules from its region of higher concentration yo its region of lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.

ex. Raisins

DIFFUSION - the movement of gas partticles like o2  , nitrogen etc . from higher concentration to lower concentration is called diffussion,

osmosis - the movement of molecules of water from it's higher concentration to lower concentrationb through semipermeable membrane called osmosis.

Diffusion is a process in which solute molecules move from higher concentration towards lower concentration. In case of Osmosis, the water moves towards highest solute concentration in a semi-permeable membrane.
