Draw the electron-dot structure of:-
(1) CaO (2) Na2O (3) MgCl2 (4) H2O (5) NH3
Dear Student,
MgCl2
Atomic number of the Mg = 12
Electronic configuration of Mg = 2 8 2
So it has two electrons in its outermost shell.
Now, atomic number of the chlorine = 17
Electronic configuration = 2 8 7
It has one electron less to complete its octet so each of the chlorine atom will take one electron from the magnesium.
Structure is given as under:
Cl . . Mg . .Cl
Similarly, you can draw electron dot structure for the rest of the compounds also. Please try yourself. In case of difficulty please get back to us.
