expert how to find the oxidation no of peroxy linkage compound

explain as soon as possible how to calculate oxi no of hnc, hcn, as2s3,fes, cu3p, fes2, and if oxidation no comes out of range then what we have to do u have not explain this type of pts in video blunder mistake

2- why u have not given the video of maxm no of atoms in the same plane of p3o9, sf6 , how we have to determine this explain in clear with details

3- cri3--- 1by2 cro7-- + io4- balance it and calculate n factor

4- explain the n factor for acid, base, salt, ion

  • Peroxide is then name given to [O-O] 2- or O 2 2- group therefore, the compounds containing O 2 2- group are called peroxides.

Let the oxidation state of each oxygen in peroxide is X.

From the formula..

O 2 2-

2(X) =-2

or X=-1.

so

The oxidation number of each O in peroxide is -1.

  • Oxidation state is defined as the state of an element/ion in a compound with regard to the electrons gained or lost by the element/ion in the reaction that formed the compound.

It is expressed as a positive or negative number indicating the ionic charge of the element or ion.

    Rules for oxidation-

    1. The oxidation state of a free element (uncombined element) is zero. For example, the atoms in He and N2, have zero oxidation state.
    2. Oxidation number of an atom in its charged monoatomic ion is equal to the charge on the ion. For example, Na + , Mg 2+ , Cr 3+ have +1, +2 and +3 oxidation states respectively.
    3. Generally, Hydrogen has +1 oxidation number but in metal hydride (Metal-hydrogen compound) its oxidation number is -1
    4. Generally, Oxygen has -2 oxidation number but in peroxide and superoxide, its oxidation number is -1 and -1/2 respectively.
    5. Fluorine has oxidation number always -1 in any compound
    6. The algebraic sum of the oxidation numbers of all the atoms in a neutral molecule is zero and in inoc
    e.g.

1.oxidation number of C in in HCN..

We know that the valency of H  is +1 and that of N is -3.

Let the oxidation state of  C is x.

so..

1+x+(-3)=0

or

x=4.

2.oxidation number of As in As2S3

Here we know that the valency of S is -2.

Let the oxidation state of  As is x.

so..

2(X)+3(-2)=0

or

x=3.

similarly you can try for others also. Incase you still face any problem do get back to us.

3.The number of atoms present in any pane is determined by its geometry and the geometry is detected by experimental methods. You will have to learn/memorize  the geometry of the molecules.

4.

N-factor of an acid is its basicity it is equal to the number of  H+ ions it produces on dissociation per molecule of acid.
For example n-factor of HCl is 1. n-factor of H2SO4 is 2.

N-factor of a base is its acidity it is equal to the number of  OH- ions it produces on dissociation per molecule of base
For example n-factor of NaOHl is 1. n-factor of Mg(OH)2 is 2.
