EXPLAIN ANY FOUR D. K. BASU GUIDELINES FOR DETENTION OF A PERSON.

The following are the four D.K. Basu guidelines that the police and other agencies have to follow for the arrest, interrogation and detention of a person:

a) The police officers who carry out the arrest should wear clear and visible identification and name tags.

b) A memo of arrest that includes the date and time of arrest should be prepared. It should be attested by a witness and counter-signed by the person who is being arrested.

  1. The person being arrested, detained or interrogated has the right to inform a friend or relative.

d) The time and place of arrest and the venue of custody needs to be informed to a friend or relative within 8 to 12 hours of the arrest if they live outside the district.
