Explain briefly the history of land reclamation in Mumbai?(it is urgent, plz give me the answer as soon as possible)

The earliest attempt to reclaim land in Bombay was made in 1784. The governor William Hornby gave his approval for the building of a sea-wall to prevent the low lying areas of the city from getting flooded. Several plans for land reclamation were formulated in the middle of the nineteenth century by government and private companies due to requirement of commercial space. The Back Bay Reclamation Company won the right to reclaim the western part of the shores from Malabar Hill to the Colaba in 1864. Most of the companies enganged in this activity closed down in 1870s due to rising costs even though the city continued to grow. Further expansion continued into the 20th century due to increase in population and every bit of available area was reclaimed from the sea. Between 1914 and 1918, the Bombay Port Trust built a dry dock and used the excavated land for the creation of Ballard Estate. The Marine Drive was also built on land reclaimed from the sea.
