According to the 'Conservation of Momentum' ; the total linear momentum of an isolated system (with no external unbalanced force) remains constant.

Conservation of momentum states that sum of momenta after collision and the sum of momenta before collision are equal.

It means that if 2 objects collide, and if you calculate the sum of their momenta before collision and the sum of the momenta after collision they will be equal.
