Explain how CO2 is able to control fire

CO2 is a non-combustible gas and extinguishes fire in two ways:

(i) Since it is heavier than oxygen, it covers the fire like a blanket and cuts off the contact between oxygen and fuel.

(ii) In cylinders, CO2 is kept in the liquid form. When released, it expands enormously and cools down. This brings down the temperature of the fuel, which helps in controlling the fire.

Carbon dioxide is heavier than oxygen so when we spray CO2 on any combustible subsrance it forms a thick layer on it and cut the supporter of combinationthat is oxygen.
  • 4
We spray CO2 on a combustible substance because it acts as a blanket over the combustible substance which cuts off the supply of oxygen and hence fire is controled.

CO2 ACTS AS  A COVER BLANKET AND CUTTS OFF THE OXYGEN SUPPLY THUS PUTTING OF FIRE

As we know that CO2 is heavier that of Oxygen so when fire extinguisher containing co2 is sprayed then C02 forms a thick layer around the fire like blanket and does not allow to O2 get in thus, cutting of supply of oxygen (supporter) thus fire is extinguished.

yes.

it acts as a blanket to avoid contact from oxygen
  • 1
as co2 is heavier than oxygen so it comes below oxygen and works like a blanket and cut off the contact between air and the object which is burning.

carbon dioxode (Co2) being heavier than oxygen, covers the fire like a blanket.as the contact between the fuel and oxygen is cutt off, the fire is controlled.
