Explain how petroleum refineries act as a "nodal industry"?

They act as a nodal industry for synthetic textiles, fertilizer and numerous other industries as they form the base of any of these industries. The raw materials required by these industries are fulfilled by petroleum refinaries thus they act as a nodal industry.

Petroleum or mineral oil is the next only to major energy source in India that is coal. It is nodal industry because it provides fuel for heat and lighting, lubricants for machinery and raw materials for a number of manufacturing industries like synthetic textile, fertiliser and numerous chemical industries.
