Explain the Shanar caste and the dress restrictions imposed on them.[answer for 5 marks]

• Shanar caste is a low rank social caste in Tamil Nadu, 
• It is also called as Nadar caste
• They dwelled in cultivation of jaggery and palm trees

The upper caste had prohibited the lower castes from using umbrellas and wearing shoes or golden ornaments. Men and women were also expected to follow the local custom of never covering their upper bodies before the upper castes.
