Express the vector as the sum of two vectors such that one is parallel to the vector and the other is perpendicular to .

 how to solve such quest. plz. explain. stepwise.

Let the vector parallel to   n( 3i + k ),  and a vector perpendicular to this be of the form... xi + yj + zk.

since these two vectors on adding gives us the vector a, we can wite the following equations..

x + 3n = 5

y = -2

z + n = 5

 

Now, since vector xi + yj + zk is perpendicular to vector b, their dot product must be zero. Satisfying that condition we get this..

3x + z = 0

z = -3x

and now on sloving the above 3 equations we get

n = 2

x = -1

y = -2

and z = 3

 

Therefore the two vectors are obtained in which 6i + 2k is parallel and -i - 2j + 3k is perpendicular to vector b.

 

The solution obtained can also be checked : 

( 6i + 2k )  +  ( -i - 2j + 3k )  =  5i - 2j + 5k

which is the given a vector.

see this is much tuff question i donot no from were have u given i have given an attempt pls see to it the vector parelle to b will be n(3i+k)=3ni+nkand the vector perpendicular is let it be a1i+a2k now as this vector is perpendicular to the b vector so a1i+a2j .b= 0 this gives us 3a1=-a2  now putting the value of a2 in my assumed vector i get a1i-3a1jnow adding these 2 as in question we get (3n+3a1)i cap+(n-3a1)k cap = 5i+-2j+5k so 3n+3a1=5 and n-3a1=5 solve these 2 linear equation to get a1=-5/2 a2=-15/2 and n=2.5 now  we can express it as 5i-2j+5k =2.5(3i+k) +(-5/2i-15/2k) hope i tried  nice give thums up if liked

i hink ur method is correct but can u pls help me telling wat mistake i did pls donot say u didnt take j because that i no but wat about coff of i and k  pls.....
