A bud is a small bulging normally occurring at the tip of stem or in the axil of leaf and giving rise to flowers, leaves or shoot.

 The time during which a seed is dormant (when growth and development do not occur) allows for the dispersal of seeds. The plant can send its seeds into new environments. Dormancy assures survival of the plant since germination does not occur until conditions are favorable for plant growth.
