give difference between sound and noise.

define amplitude and frequency of sound.

1.sound is a kind of vibration which travel through air, water, and are sensed by the ear. a thing that can be heard. This is from music, speech, and others like films dialogs etc., one thing in this matter is that we can increase the volume of sound or decrease as per our taste if it is from radio, television, computers and man operative machines.

whereas,

a noise is a sound from one and more at a time which can not be heard clearly and only mixed sounds will be heard. you can not increase or decrease the noise. If a meeting, there will be noise among the people talking each other besides the speaker going on talking. in a shandy, there we can hear the noise since several persons are on buying and selling. in an office one is talking on mobile, phone ringing another side, ring tones in some person's hands, loud conversations with one and another etc., this is called noise. Even, a music in public place with loud voice will also be a noise.

sound can be pleasant to listen but a noise always disturbs our mind or ears.

There are two main properties of a regular vibration - the amplitude and the frequency - which affect the way it sounds.

Amplitude is the size of the vibration, and this determines how loud the sound is.  We have already seen that larger vibrations make a louder sound.

Amplitude is important when balancing and controlling the loudness of sounds, such as with the volume control on your CD player.  It is also the origin of the word amplifier, a device which increases the amplitude of a waveform.

Frequency is the speed of the vibration, and this determines the pitch of the sound.  It is only useful or meaningful for musical sounds, where there is a strongly regular waveform.

Frequency is measured as the number of wave cycles that occur in one second.  The unit of frequency measurement is Hertz (Hz for short).

A frequency of 1 Hz means one wave cycle per second.  A frequency of 10 Hz means ten wave cycles per second, where the cycles are much shorter and closer together.

The note A which is above Middle C (more on this later) has a frequency of 440 Hz. It is often used as a reference frequency for tuning musical instruments.

sound is not irratating to our ears as is noise and there is a sudden change in the frequncy and amplitude of noise .

the sound which appears pleasant to the ear is known as sound

the sound which is unwanted or unpleasant to the ears is known as noise

amplitude is the size of the vibration

frequency  refers to the no.of oscillations completed in one second

  • Sound is an energy which travels through a material medium and  which stimulates sense of hearing. It is caused by vibrations.
  • Sound which is unpleasant to the ear is called noise. it is caused by irregular sound patterns. It can cause many health disorders.
  • Amplitude is the maximum displacement of a vibrating body from its mean position. The more the amplitutde, the louder the sound.
  • Frequency is the no. of oscillations completed by a vibrating body in one second. Its SI unit is Hertz(Hz). The pitch of sound depends upon its frequency. The higher the frequency, the shriller the sound.

Sound and Noise are two words that are often confused as words that give the same meaning. As a matter of fact both these words are to be understood with difference.

Sound is a sensation caused in the ear by the vibration of the surrounding air or other medium. It is clearly understood from the definition that vibrations cause the sensation called the sound.

A noise on the other hand is an unpleasant sound especially a loud one comprising of shouts too. Thus it is understood that there is unpleasantness about noise whereas there is no unpleasantness about sound.

On the other hand sound arises from musical instruments too and these sounds are pleasant for that matter. Noise cab be deafening at all times whereas sounds are not deafening always.

One of the main differences between sound and noise is that sound is desired whereas noise is mostly undesired. You do not normally like to hear the noise made in a classroom whereas you would like to hear the sounds arising from the frets of a lute or a guitar.

Another main difference between sound and noise is that sound is always relevant whereas noise is irrelevant. Sound is characterized by regular fluctuations of vibrations whereas noise is characterized by irregular fluctuations of vibrations.

It is interesting to note that the word ‘noise’ is derived from the Latin word ‘nausea’. On the other hand the word ‘sound’ is derived from the Latin word ‘sonus’. The word ‘sound’ is used in various fields such as music, film-making, speech and the like. On the other hand the word ‘noise’ is used in figurative expressions that convey the sense of undesirability and irrelevance.

Finally it can be said sound has a positive connation whereas noise has a negative connotation.
