Throw a stone and you will find a coaching class there! This is the current scene everywhere. The concept of private coaching had begun innocuously to aid students cope up with their studies and was initially aimed at assisting weaker students. Over a period of time, a complete transformation took place and it became a flourishing business. Very soon the coaching classes became like a passport to enter a reputed institute and a sure shot ticket to success.

Introduction of a number of entrance examinations and competitions forced students to look towards these classes. Their alluring promises and assurances of securing higher ranks was like a haven for many. The big question here is as to why the school teachers are not able to fulfill this need?

Well, the teachers are already over burdened with course curriculum and other general activities of the school. It is with great difficulty that they just manage to finish the course material. Quality somehow gets neglected in the process. Considering the pay packages of the teaching staff, it is not a surprise at all. It leaves the students with no other option but turn towards coaching classes in the face of cut throat competitions.

Undoubtedly, the coaching classes have the best of teachers, give personal attention and provide a well researched curriculum. But they are not sitting there for doing charity!

From the welfare of the students, very soon the motto changed to earning money. In the absence of any concrete rules and regulations, they started charging exorbitant amount of money. This is what hurts the most. There are many students who are going much beyond their budget and capacity to the fees. It is a gross injustice towards them.

Efforts are being made by the management to simplify and continuously change the level of entrance exams so that the need for such classes is reduced. It is difficult to obliterate them completely but measures should be taken to control their fee structure and break their monopoly.
