v  The story is in first person narrative describing a ghost story writer. The writer is urged by his friend to write a new ghost story for his magazine. When he begins to write, a she-ghost, Helen, descends and says that all the ghosts are going on leave and that thye be not disturbed by people like him. She explains that it is actually these people who have been helping all the writers to get new plots to write on. At noon, while he is still trying to work on a story, his wife Lavina brings a Ouija Board home and announces her party with the women from her Book Club. The writer, drowned in consternation by her declaration, tries to convince Lavina, his wife, to drop the idea. However, his wife made him a partner of Laura Hinkle, one of the women from the Book Club who is quiet fond of Mr. Hallock (the author), to work on one of the Ouija boards. Though he tried to resist, his wife paid no heed. When the spirit descended, Laura asked it to tell something, the pointer started moving towards the letters to point out the word 'TRAITOR '. Bewildered, the writer had nothing to say so his partner asked the spirit to explain itself more fully. In response, the spirit spelt 'ASK HIM '. That was when the author realised that it was actually Helen who was trying to interact with them. Unable to explain, the author felt miserable and his wife Lavina, who was already going ballistic threatened to walk out on him. The scene then shifts back to his room when he is in a mournful state and Helen re-appears and asks him of when his wife would get rid of the Ouija Board. However, Lavina entered to bid him bye. She felt the queerness about him and demanded like a boss what was he trying to conceal behind him and thrusted him aside only to see the ghost lady Helen. She was flabbergasted, and then she realised that she had speculated all wrongs that her husband was possibly flirting with Helen of troy over the Ouija Board. Finally the ghost departed and Lavina apologised to her husband.

SHADY PLOT
It is a story of an ordinary man who is an accountant. The writer is urged by his friend to write a new ghost story for his magazine. When he begins to write, a she-ghost, Helen, descends and tells him that she was also an author in her life, and tells him that she and her fellow ghosts was the one who gave him ideas when he was thinking for ideas, Helen says she would help him in providing ideas on one condition that he should make his friends and relatives stop using the Ouija board, coz all the ghosts were fed up of human beings calling them time after time, so they are on a strike, coz he is unable to help him unless the strike is over, if he succeeds in doing so surely she will provide him ideas, and then lavinia, John 's wife (lavinia) enters the room and announces that she has brought a Ouija board in auction. John was very shocked to see this., and one day he when he was coming from office he found that his wife was conducting Ouija board party. Everyone was in pair. Only one girl was left alone. So John was asked to accompany her by his wife. John hesitates but he continues, but as the play begins the word refers john as traitor, everyone is shocked and when a women (Mrs. Hinkle) further asks then it appears that a women named Helen is calling for him, everyone assumes the John had a secret relationship with a girl named Helen, and next day, when john gets up he couldn’t find his wife, she had left a note that she is going to her grandmother 's house and rest of the things will be discussed by lawyer, at this point john wishes that he was dead, and then the ghost reappears and tells john that his wife must get rid of the Ouija board. As he is trying to argue with the ghost, that she was responsible of all this that happened, john’s wife comes in, john thought his wife would faint if she sees the ghost, But nothing so happened in fact she had a wide smile on seeing her. And then Helen tells that she is not the Helen of Troy, but another Helen, an ordinary woman of New York ( now dead ), The ghost departed, Lavinia forgives her husband and promises to get rid of the Ouija board which makes everyone happy- the ghost of Helen, the maid, and, of course, the author. And hence john is provided by the idea of writing a story which had actually happened with him, hence the condition is also satisfied and everyone is happy.

Shady Plot, a short story by Elsie Brown, is in first person narrative describing a ghost story writer. The writer is urged by his friend to write a new ghost story for his magazine. The author is very disturbed and can 't figure out a proper storyline. While he contemplates on the plot of his story it turns dark. He starts talking to himself when suddenly he hears the ghost Helen 's voice. He is startled and unable to comprehend anything. He gaped helplessly when the ghost bursts into frustration: “What are you gaping at?” Here is when we know the reason to why the ghost is enraged. She reminisces on her past life as a human and how angry she was with people then. She speaks on behalf of all the people who have turned ghosts to stop humans from calling them often. She says they are through and are all going to call for a strike. This strike refers to not to appear or provide ideas to people for writing ghost stories. Thus, Helen commands the author not to involve in any activity as such which would mean calling the spirits. At noon, while he is still trying to work on a story, his wife Lavina brings a Ouija Board home and announces her party with the women from her Book Club. The writer, drowned in consternation by her declaration, tries to convince Lavina, his wife, to drop the idea. However, his wife makes him a partner of Laura Hinkle, one of the women from the Book Club who is quiet fond of Mr. Hallock (the author), to work on one of the Ouija boards. Though he tries to resist, his wife pays no heed. When the spirit descends, Laura asks it to tell something, the pointer started moving towards the letters to point out the word 'TRAITOR '. Bewildered, the writer has nothing to say so his partner asks the spirit to explain itself more fully. In response, the spirit spells 'ASK HIM '. This is when the author realises that it is actually Helen who is trying to interact with them. Unable to explain, the author feels miserable and his wife Lavina, who already goes ballistic, threatens to walk out on him. The scene then shifts back to his room when he is in a mournful state and Helen re-appears and asks him of when his wife would get rid of the Ouija Board. However, Lavina enters to bid him bye. She feels the queerness about him and demands like a boss what he is trying to conceal behind him and thrusts him aside only to see the ghost lady Helen. She is flabbergasted, and then she realises that she had speculated all wrongs that her husband had been possibly flirting with Helen of troy over the Ouija Board. Finally the ghost departs and Lavina apologises to her husband.

Shady Plot, a short story by Elsie Brown, is in first person narrative describing a ghost story writer. The writer is urged by his friend to write a new ghost story for his magazine. The author is very disturbed and can't figure out a proper storyline. While he contemplates on the plot of his story it turns dark. He starts talking to himself when suddenly he hears the ghost Helen's voice. He is startled and unable to comprehend anything. He gaped helplessly when the ghost bursts into frustration: What are you gaping at? Here is when we know the reason to why the ghost is enraged. At noon, while he is still trying to work on a story, his wife Lavina brings a Ouija Boardhomeand announces her party with the women from her Book Club. When the spirit descends, Laura asks it to tell something, the pointer started moving towards the letters to point out the word 'TRAITOR'. Bewildered, the writer has nothing to say so his partner asks the spirit to explain itself more fully. In response, the spirit spells 'ASK HIM'.

A Shady Plot by Elsie Brown is an unconventional ghost story which deals with three main characters- Mr. John Hallock, Lavinia- Johns wife and Helen-the Ghost. Jenkins who is a magazine publisher asks John to write a ghost story. John sits and has no idea for the plot. Suddenly Helen, the ghost descends in front of John and tells him that shewas appointed by the Writers Inspiration Bureau to help him to provide with ideas for writing ghost stories. She also added that she wont help him out now bcos the ghosts were going on a strike. She blackmails him that he should tell his friends and relatives to stop using the Ouija board inorder for seeking her (Helen's) help to get plot for his story. Saying so she disappears. With sudden surprise, Lavinia bought the Ouija board and organized a party. The writer, drowned in consternation by her declaration, tries to convince Lavina, his wife, to drop the idea. However, his wife makes him a partner of Laura Hinkle. Then the Ouija board calls him a traitor (which was told by Helen).John quite annoyed and disturbed leaves the room. Lavinia suspects him having an affair with Helen.Lavinia informs John that she is leaving to her grandma's house through a letter. She comes to house to inform John. She feels the queerness about him and demands like a boss what he is trying to conceal behind him and thrusts him aside only to see the ghost lady Helen. She is flabbergasted, and then she realizes that she had speculated all wrongs that her husband had been possibly flirting with Helen of troy over the Ouija Board. Finally she reconciles with John. She also gets rid of Ouija board. John got a wonderful plot for writing his story.
