how did the narrator respond after knowing the secret

The narrator was extremely surprised and shocked. He did not reveal to the two brothers that he knew about their secret. He was obviously impressed by their devotion towards their sister deeply touched the narrator. The devotion of the two brothers made the narrator realise that their is still hope in human society.
