how did the narrator reveal his love for history and share his philosophical views on life

J's love for history is revealed when during the journey, when one morning while having scrambled eggs, he begins to think about the famous June morning of 1215 when King John signed the Magna Carta. He sits on the bank conjuring the scene of the signing of Magna Carta.

He shares his philosophies of life by narrating the thoughts he has during one night. He thinks the Night like a great loving Mother. In that presence all human life lies like a book before all of us. We know that pain and sorrow are but the angels of God. J. feels that those who suffer see this sort of wondrous light. He then recalls the tale of a Knight.
