how do green plants produce food?

Dear Student,

@Sanjana, although Akshita has given a correct answer, i would like to add some more points to her answer.

Chemical equation for the photosynthesis is:

6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + O2

Carbon dioxide +  water → carbohydrate + oxygen

The reaction takes place in the presence of sunlight.

@Akshita,  we really appreciate your contributions to this forum, Keep posting!!

Plants make food in their leaves.  The leaves contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which colors the leaves green.  Chlorophyll can make food the plant can use from carbon dioxide, water, nutrients, and energy from sunlight.  This process is called photosynthesis. The main requirement for this process is solar energy.

Plant Needs

During the process of photosynthesis, plants release oxygen into the air.  People and animals need oxygen to breathe.
