How do three states of matter arise?

We know that solid, liquid and the gaseous state of matter are the most commonly found states of matter. These states are physically quite distinct from each other primarily due to the following two factors

(a) Inter-particle forces

(b) Inter-particle spaces

Thus, the three states of matter exist because the magnitude of inter-particle forces and the amount of inter-particle spaces in all the three states of matter are different.

We can see that matter around us exists in three different states– solid, liquid and gas. These states of matter arise due to the variation in the characteristics of the particles of matter.
