How is glucose and amino acids assimilated in the body ?

Assimilation is the absorption or intake of various digested materials by the cells of the body. The cells utilize these components for their various functions. Assimilation occurs through out the body. The assimilation of glucose and amino acids is explained below:

The glucose in our body is converted into glycogen and stored in the liver. Glycogen is converted to sugar when the body needs energy. Glucose is distributed throughout the body by circulatory system and cells oxidise glucose to release energy during cellular respiration.

Amino acids have to pass through the liver before they reach blood circulatory system. Amino acids are used to synthesized plasma proteins. Function of plasma proteins includes blood clotting and osmoregulation. When there is short supply of glucose, aminoacids are converted to glucose by the liver through the process called gluconeogenesis.
