how to calculate total no. of nodal planes in any orbital?

Dear student!

No of nodal planes in an orbital = l (azimuthal quantum no.)

So, that for s-orbital, l = 0 so, nodal planes = l = 0

Similarly for p-orbitals l = 1 , so nodal planes = l = 1 and so on.

Hey..!!
The value of the l is equal is to the number of the nodal planes thru d nucleus.
i.e..if the value of l = 0 , s orbital , the no of nodal planes is also equal to zero..
if l = 1 .. p orbital .. the no of nodal planes is equal to 1..!
hope this helps..:)
note : l is the azimuthal quantum no.!
