how to score 100 in economics? which is the best refresher in the market for economics?

Economic is a highly scoring subject . However, besides having all the concepts and answers on tips, often students face a common problem in time management while writing their papers. In this regard, one just need to consider the following points.

  1. Remember to stick to the prescribed word limit so that you can apportion the time to each question according to the marks it carries. In this regard, you must make a note of following:

  • For Long Answer Questions, carrying 5 and 6 marks, begin your answer by quoting definitions, giving an overview or brief introduction to the concerned topic and subsequently followed by the points. At the end, wrap up the answer with conclusions. The length of the answer should not be more than 250 words.

  • For Short Answer Questions, carrying 3 and 4 marks, use single line introductions for such answers, cover all relevant and related points and reasons. For these questions, do not be highly descriptive like Long Answer Questions but the length of text of the answer must be appropriate to the question requirements. The length of the answer should not be more than 150 words.

  • For Very Short Answer Questions , carrying 1 and 2 marks, be highly specific and to the point. If a question start with words such as ‘enumerate’ or ‘list’ or ‘enlist’, then just mention the points and no need to explain them individually.

2. For long answer questions, the explanation for each individual point should not be more than 2-3 lines. In case, you forget or miss out the main head (or pointer) for any particular point, then do not panic at all. Use your common sense and general knowledge to frame a new head/point that you think is closest and is appropriate to the context.

3. Always highlight the important lines and keywords to make your answer convey the important text at the first look.

4. If a question is on types, functions, features, etc. then supplement your answers with flow charts and branch diagrams. This will help the examiner to have a quick glance at all the points covered by you in your answer.

5. Besides all these, the most important aspect is managing time effectively. Here, on the basis of experience the experts advice to attempt the Business Studies exam in the following chronological order.

  • First 1 and ½ hours of exam - The Long Answer Questions (i.e. of 5 and 6 marks questions) should be attempted first. One should not take more than 1.5 hours (90 minutes). This is basically because as the answers to these questions require more time and intelligent thinking. Once you finish these, you can be assured that a major chunk of your paper is already done. This will boost you psychologically and will help you to tackle the remaining portion more confidently.

  • In 2nd hour of exam - After the long answer questions, student should attempt the Short Answer Questions (which are of 3 and 4 marks). These answers to these questions must be completed within 1 hour (60 minutes). Maintain the steady pace while answering these questions too. After both Long and Short answer questions are completed, you would just be left with one mark questions.

  • In next 20 minutes- Lastly, you should aim to answer the One Word Questions ( of 1 Mark) within 15 minutes time. The answer to these questions should be straightforward and explicitly to the point.

  • Last 15 minutes- Normally, students keep-on writing till the last second of the exam. This leaves them with no time for revision, hence, the mistakes remain unidentified. Thus, it is advisable to always save some time for revision. The adherence to the above mentioned time-pattern ensures sufficient time for revision. This will help you to find petty mistakes in your answers, thereby, will reduce the chances of overlooking your errors to minimum. While revising, ensure the following points.

    • All the questions have been answered

    • The answers are numbered correctly and as per the question number as given in the question paper.

    • Have a bird’s-eye view of all your answers again to avoid repetitions and to edit vague text.

    • Make sure that all the supplementary sheets are properly arranged and tied.
