how would u distinguish b/w butyne-1 and butyne-2 ?

1-Butyne is an alkyne with triple bond between C₁ and C₂ carbon and 2-Butyne is an alkyne with triple bond between C₂ and C₃ carbon atom.

Reagents can be used to distinguish between 1-Butyne and 2-Butyne:

(1) AgNO₃ + NH₄OH (Tollen's reagent)

1-butyne is a terminal alkyne so it gives white ppt with tollen's reagent while 2-butyne does not react with tollen reagent.

(2) Cu₂Cl₂ + NH₄OH

1-butyne give red ppt while 2-butyne does not react at all.
