how would u distinguish b/w butyne-1 and butyne-2 ?

1-Butyne is an alkyne with triple bond between C1 and C2 carbon and 2-Butyne is an alkyne with triple bond between C2 and C3 carbon atom.

Reagents can be used to distinguish between 1-Butyne and 2-Butyne:

(1) AgNO3 + NH4OH (Tollen's reagent)

1-butyne is a terminal alkyne so it gives white ppt with tollen's reagent while 2-butyne does not react with tollen reagent.

(2) Cu2Cl2 + NH4OH

1-butyne give red ppt while 2-butyne does not react at all.

butyne -1 contains it triple bond between the 1 st and 2nd carbon atom ,where as butyne-2 contains its triple bond b/w the 2nd and 3rd carbon atoms
