1> The cause
The root cause of a poor self image mostly has to do with unfavourable experiences in the past especially during the growing up years in a persons life. Those who arent able to get over their past usually end up captivated in that one moment which traumatized them for the rest of their lives.

2> The effect on oneself
Different people who suffer from poor self image tend react to it differently. While a some prefer to dwell on it and hence become more introverts there are others who tend to hide their insecurities behind a a mask of exuberence. Either ways it doesnt help in the long run....apart from the emotional stress, there are other side effects too like social and physical under development and also in worst case scenarios it can lead to depression too. 1> The cause

3> The effect on others:
People can generally make out a person who is suffering from low self esteem. It is easily conveyed through their body language, mannerisms etc. In the society people react differently when they interact with such people. While some are understanding, others are not. Especially in a cut-throat world that we live in, there are very few who would not take undue advantage of someone else's weaknesses.

4> The way out
The way one percieves him/herself is an inherent part of one's nature. And like anything to do with nature, for any long lasting change to take place it takes time, patience, will and constant guidance. People who suffer from poor self image need to realise that lasting change can only be achieved if the desire comes from within.....external factors do play a role but they can help you only if you want to change.
