if one mole of carbon atoms weighs 12g what is the mass of 1 atom of carbon?? plss explain....

Molar mass is the mass of one mole of the substance, and we know that one mole of a substance consists of 6.022 X 1023 particles of the substance. Thus, if the molar mass of carbon is 12g, it means it is the mass of 6.022 X 1023 atoms of carbon. So

mass of 6.022 X 1023 atoms of carbon = 12g

mass of 1 atom of carbon = 12 / (6.022 X 1023)g = 1.993 X 10-23 g

we know the formulae ,

                     m M  =  n No

          here m = ?

                   M =  atomic no of c x 2

                        = 12

                n = 1

               No = 6.022 x 1023

putting them in the formulae , we ge

               m = n No x molar mass

              m = 1 6.022 x 1023 x 12

               m = 12 6.022 x 1023

             mass of 1 atom of carbon = 12 6.022 x 1023

If 1 mole of carbon has 6.02*10 exp 23 atoms and it weights exactly 12 gr.

1 single atom should weight 12 gr/ 6.02 * 10 exp 23 = 1,99*10 exp -23 grams
