In an examination , a student scores 4 marks for every correct answer and loses 1 mark for every wrong answer . If he attempts an all 60 questions and secures 130 marks , what number of questions does he attempt correctly?

Let number of correct answers = xthen the number of incorrect answers = 60 - xMarks awarded for 1 correct answer =  +4So, marks awarded for x correct answers = 4xMarks awarded for 1 incorrect answer = -1So, marks awarded for 60 - x incorrect answers = -1 60 - x                                                                                        =x - 60Now, According to question,     4x + x - 60 = 130 5x = 130 + 60 5x = 190 x = 1905 x = 38So, number of questions that he attempts correctly = 38
