indo gangetic plains have high density of population find reasons

Indo Gangetic plains have high density of population due to the following reasons:
  1. Alluvial soil - The alluvial soil is very fertile and supports cultivation of different types of crops. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people in flat land with Paddy, wheat, apple, bananas and different vegetables as main crops.
  2. Natural vegetation - Tropical deciduous forests dominate the region which provides timber for furniture, fuel wood, fodder, medicinal plants and herbs, honey, gum, etc. Forests are the natural habitat of wild life. Plenty of fishes are found in the fresh river water.
  3. Topography - The land area has varied topography. The mountain areas with steep slopes have scarce population but the plain areas provide the most suitable land for human habitation.
  4. Transport – Transport is well developed in the Indo Gangetic plains. In the plain areas the roadways and railways is a cheap and effective means of transport while waterways is an effective means of transport along the rivers. It also has a large number of airports.
  5. Comfortable life - Generally, plains are very fertile and support human life in an effective way. Construction of transport network is easy. More flat land is available for building houses, as well as for cultivation. Thus, these plains are very thickly-populated regions of the world.

This area in South Asia is extremely fertile and excellent for farming. This makes the Ganges plain a haven for Asian farmers to grow rice and wheat. Hence, population density in and aroun these plains is high.
