is there any information about HDI (human Development Index)

and PQLI (Physical quality of life index( in economics section ? i am not able to study according to the textbook of 11th std.

The human development index is a parameter that is constructed in order to measure the holistic development and the overall well being of the human capital of a nation. In other words, the HDI of a country depicts the total growth and development of its population. A higher HDI is an indicator of the higher performance of a nation in terms of social and economic development. Few of the major indices included in the calculation of HDI are life expectancy rate, infant mortality rate, adult literacy rate, per capita GDP, etc.

For more information on this topic you can go through our study material in Indian Economic Development- Comparative Development Experiences of India and its Neighbours (Lesson- 4).

The concept of physical quality of life index is not a part of the current syllabus. However, below mentioned is the basic crux of PQLI.

The physical quality of life index is basically calculated to measure the quality or the standard of life of a nation. It is an average of the three basic indicators namely, literacy rate, infant mortality rate and life expectancy at age one.
