Kindly clarify. My textbook (ICSE Concise Biology) reads that in the set of milk teeth the molars are missing and the dental formula is 2,1,2,0. Whereas in these notes it has been written that the premolars are mising and the dental formula is 2,1,0,2.

Dear Student,

The milk teeth lack molars and the dental formula is 2120/2120 as given in your book.

It should also be stated that in deciduous teeth, they are the molars which grow in the place of premolars thus being named as premolars. So actually till the age of 7-8 years the molars occupy the space of premolars which is then occupied by the new set of teeth which are actually the premolars and the molars start to grow behind them.
