Some common defects of CFT are :

=>It can't explain thee color of substances with a full or empty d orbitals.

=> It assumes ligands as point charges so, the anionic ligends should exert the greatest splitting effect , but actually the anionic ligands are found at the low end of the spectrochemical series.

=> It does not involves and accounts for the covalent bonding between the ligend and the central atom.
