mechanism of reaction of two equivalents of chlorobenzene on one equivalent of 2,2,2, tri chloro ethanal 1 in the presence of concentrated H2SO4 to give DDT
Step I) Addition of proton to 2,2,2-trichloro ethanal:
Step II) Attack of chlorobenzene on the electrophillic carbonly carbon of protonated 2,2,2-trichloro ethanal.
Step III) step I and II are again repeated here i.e. addition of proton followed by removal of water molecule giving DDT, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane.
