mendius reduction????

Hi,
The reduction of alkyl or aryl cyanides to primary amines in presence of Na amalgam on alcohol is called Mendius reaction.

 It is a special form of preperation of amines from the process of " REDUCTION of NITRILES" where R= CH3...the eqn is in pg 385 of NCERT chemistry book 2.
