The advantages of multipurpose projects are:-

1.) They help in storing water at large amount which can be used for agricultural and other purpose.

2.)Helpful in generating electricity.

3.) Helpful in checking flood.

4.) Provide facility of fishing.

5.) In some conditions, they can be used for navigation.

 The disadvantages of multipurpose projects are:- 

1.) Sometimes a leakage in the dam from anyside can be very harmful for the adjoining areas.

2.) They cover a large area of cultivable land and forest area.

3.) Sometimes they can cause flood.

4.) They also stop aquatic fauna migration.

5.) Sometime, they can cause water borne diseases.
